Video tour through Facebook’s environmentally friendly data center

We have written about PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) quite often during the last months (find out more in our archive). There is a simple reason for that: PUE is one of the basic and most effective metrics for measuring data center energy efficiency.

During the last two years companies like Google, Facebook and Ebay built data centers with a reported PUE of 1.2 or even lower. The current leader in this race to a data center with a PUE of 1 (which, by the way, is almost impossible) is Facebook.

It’s data center facility in Prineville, Oregon has a PUE of 1.1. To give some hints about how this was achieved, the site was opened up for a quick reporter tour, showcasing what’s new and what has been updated about the environmentally friendly facility.
